Lowell Riverfront Trail

WillhiteWeb.com
Historically, much of the harbor and riverfront property in Everett has been owned by industrial interests, making it off limits to the general public. This section has been transformed into a public area. The trail is in a park like setting, with lookout points, a dozen benches, several picnic tables and attractive landscaping. The idea of the trail is to connect the sidewalk network of the City to the Everett riverfront, downtown, harbor and other activity centers. Note that Lowell Riverfront Park is different than the trail.

The history in this area starts with the Snohomish Tribe using the river as a transportation route. In 1863, E.D. Smith arrived and opened a logging camp and sawmill. Then a general store, hotel, post office and blacksmith shop over the next decade. Visible remnants of this period are an 1880s farmhouse and barn that belonged to Smiths brother-in-law. Both are across the river in full view.
