Mineral Ridge Scenic Area Loop

This is a simple loop so not much to say other than doing the loop counter-clockwise will make it more dramatic and is the route for the BLM interpretive guide. For the bonus hike, take a right when you hit the Wilson Trail at the Caribou Shelter. This trail continues up the ridge East to some additional views and benches. The Wilson Trail transitions into the Last Man Trail as it works around some private land. Just keep following and eventually you hit a Forest Road and trails end. But, you can continue up the ridge on the road, eventually hiking gated roads and old abandoned roads that are now trails on Elk Mountain. Views in this area are pretty limited but you are likely to have a secluded hiking experience up on Elk Mountain.
Route:
One of the most popular trails to view Lake Coeur d'Alene is the viewpoint on Mineral Ridge. This hike is always being used and the parking lot only holds 20 or so cars, so consider when you are visiting. The trail is a loop and it is well made, smooth and a gentle grade. You can get an interpretive brochure online, which offers lots to see and learn along the way, including the mining history. On the ridge, there is even a shelter with a view. For those looking for more than this tourist hike, the Wilson Trail leaves at the ridge continuing up to higher heights and additional views. One can even hike on roads and abandoned roads into the Elk Mountain area for additional miles.

For further exploration, you can continue on the Wilson Trail once you hit the ridge. The trail goes to a few more views before becoming the Lost Man Trail. These end at a Forest Service road, see link.
