Hiking northbound on the Appalachian Trail from the iconic McAffe Knob, you reach the next mountain in 5.5 miles called Tinker Mountain. The trail here traverses the Tinker Cliffs. The Tinker Cliffs run for about a quarter mile, providing several fine viewpoints looking to the west, all the way to McAfee Knob and down into the Catawba Valley. The best outlooks from the cliffs are at the south end.
The Appalachian Trail continues past the Tinker Cliffs making a long decent down to the crossing of US 220 in Daleville where a Super 8 motel is right along side of the trail. A major grocery store is an easy walk or a quick Uber call.
