McQueen Knob Lookout Site
USGS parties visited the site in 1934, 1937, 1958, and 1963, each time describing the Forest Service lookout as a 40-foot steel fire tower. A cabin with fireplace and telephone poles are mentioned too in 1934. They also use the Appalachian Trail in all their access and location descriptions.

AT route over McQueen Knob
This is the last lookout in Tennessee before going into Virginia. There is a still a small emergency shelter called the Holiday Inn for three or four people that was built in 1934 not far from where the tower stood. This is one of the oldest shelters on the AT. Although the knob is part of Holston Mountain, this is not the site of the standing Holston Mountain Fire Lookout.
