Loudoun Heights site is a tower that was never actually built. Back when the ridgetop was privately owned, a campground was planned with an observation tower. The project never got off the ground and the tower was never built, although the footings and bottom stairs still remain at the site. The original AT route went right past the tower footings and they are mentioned in the old AT guidebooks.

My Visit:
The old trail off the AT to this site is pretty much overgrown (3 minute walk). You will need to pay close attention to find the spot, as the AT is well below the site on the ridge.
I found the old stonework at the site to be very interesting and would love to know if its history has Civil War connections.
