In 1922:, a new trail on a much improved location was constructed to the top of Carter Dome. This opened the way for the construction of a new telephone line and observation quarters.
In 1924, a new 30 foot steel tower was cab was built.
In 1947, the tower was abandoned and destroyed.
Today the summit is wooded so no views. There are a few spots to push through some trees and get a photo or two of a view northward. There is also lots of camping on the summit in the protection of trees.
