In 1913, a 30-foot steel tower was built (maybe 40 feet). This tower had a telephone line to it.

In 1916, the tower was moved from Becket Mountain to Lair Mountain in Tolland, where an extension of 20 feet was added.

A 1939 Massachusetts Geodetic Survey crew mentioned the old fire tower foundations at the summit. They made their observations from a 24-foot tower but likely they built their own tower.

Today the footings still are visible.

Some sources suggest the tower was only used for one year, from Oct 12, 1915 to the end of the 1916 season.

Another sources says it was built in 1914, and closed permanently at the end of the season. Later in the year, the structure was disassembled and stored until 1915, when it was rebuilt on Lair Mountain in Tolland.

These 2 shots of the summit from the internet. When I visited, there was a scout troop taking a super long break all spread out over the summit. Getting a picture was impossible.
