Yellowstone Lake & West Thumb
WillhiteWeb.com
Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake in North America. The lake is covered by ice from December to May or June. Many of the areas 1,000 to 3,000 annual earthquakes occur under Yellowstone Lake, causing uplift and subsidence events which continue to reshape the waters edge. At West Thumb, there are mud pots, boiling springs and geysers that discharge in the chilly waters of Yellowstone Lake. There are numerous other access areas to the lake from the main park roads.
