Turn Point Lighthouse - Stuart Island
Route
You will need to navigate park trails to the County Road access point. Once on the road, signs will direct you all the way to the lighthouse. Along the way, you will have to climb up and over a large hill. A farm on the far side had a table stand with signs congratulating people for climbing the hill, offering free water and offerings to purchase T-shirts saying you have conquered the hill to the lighthouse. In reality, the hill is only a 300-foot climb, but for many boat dwellers, that is enough to wipe them out. After the hill, there is a view of Mt. Baker and a stroll alongside a tiny private grassy airstrip. Finally, you enter BLM lands, dropping down to the lighthouse area.
Every hike is unique, this one especially. This hike is along a scenic county road that likely, will not have any cars passing you going to the lighthouse and back. The reward is a big payoff with the Haro Strait in full view with the endless islands surrounding Vancouver Island in the distance. Look for whales, cook a dinner and watch the sunset (bring flashlight for way back).
