McNeil Island Kayak Loop
Enjoy a paddling trip around an island you are not allowed to step onto. McNeal Island is a former prison but is now a detention center for violent sexual offenders, so maybe you do not want to step onto the island. What it does offer is quiet shores, views of old homesteads, wildlife spotting, a close look at the prison and a chance to visit Eagle Island State Park. Signs along the shore say to stay 100 yards off-shore.

Many access points are possible. We chose to reach McNeal Island by starting from Penrose Point State Park. Once around the point, we paddled south to the island and then just circled the island and returned the same way. Eagle Island is located at the south end, closer to Anderson Island.
