Beartooth Highway - Montana/Wyoming

WillhiteWeb.com
Beartooth Scenic Byway is Wyomings highest paved primary road. The road is considered one of the most beautiful drives in America. The road reaches 10,947 feet near Beartooth Pass. The only National Scenic Byway in Wyoming, this two-lane route was the first and most substantial road to be constructed under the Park Approaches Act of 1931. The road leads to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and closes to cars in the winter. The Wyoming section is 47 miles in length and requires a minimum drive time of one hour.

The Clarks Fork River, running through the valley was named in honor of William Clark by Meriwether Lewis on their famous westward expedition. Neither Lewis or Clark ever saw this spectacular valley, but camped at the rivers confluence with the Yellowstone in 1804. John Colter, Lewis and Clarks guide became the first white man to see this valley after he left the expedition in 1807.
