Provincetown is at the extreme tip of Cape Cod. The small coastal resort town has a year-round population of just under 3,000 but in summer it can explode to 60,000 people. Often called P-town, it is known for its beaches, harbor, artists, tourist industry.

Forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds, and uplands support diverse species. Lighthouses, cultural landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod's past and continuing ways of life. Swimming beaches, hiking and biking trails, visitors centers can be visited.
On 9 November 1620, the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower sighted Cape Cod while in route to the Colony of Virginia. After two days of failed attempts to sail south against the strong winter seas, they returned to the safety of the Provincetown harbor and set anchor. It was here that the Mayflower Compact was drawn up and signed where they agreed to settle and build a self-governing community. Though the Pilgrims chose to settle across the bay in Plymouth.
