In 1938, a 99-foot tower with L-6 cab was built.

In 1952, a benchmark was placed at this location by the USGS. The stamp on the BM is LOOKOUT TOWER. They described the tower as a U.S. Game Preserve Lookout Tower 108.8 feet tall.

In 1971, there were ruins on the ground.

Parts of the cab are used in the Ray Kresek museum cab in his yard.

Turnbull Lookout
1954 USGS, 1956 edition
Lookout History:
For whatever reasons, this part of the wildlife refuge prohibits hiking, except during hunting season, when hunters with special permits are allowed to go shoot the wildlife in this section of the refuge. Signs at the gate say no entry. I do not know what is posted off the Columbia Plateau Trail.
