In the 1940s, there was a tower with L-4 cab.
Around 1962, a 40-foot wooden DNR tower with cab was built. The 4th Biennial Report of the Washington Department of Natural Resources called it a replacement lookout.
In 1963, a survey crew placed a station on the top center of the tower calling the station the Thorn Lookout Tower. They described the tower as a 10-foot square wood house supported by a 4-legged wooden tower with the overall height at approximately 75 feet.
In 1996 the tower was removed.
In 1970, an article in March said that the Thorn lookout station near Dayton, Washington, Umatilla National Forest, was broken into three times. Damage to the structure, maintained cooperatively with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the value of articles was estimated at $460.
