Sopelia Lookout Site

Built in 1959, there was an R-6 flat cab on concrete pillars. It was the first and only lookout structure here. Sopelia replaced nearby Simcoe Butte Lookout. Sopelia was left unused for many years until it burned in the 2013 Mile Marker 28 forest fire.

A private timber owner owns the land. In time, I think the DNR will acquire this property, so be patient.
