Monumental Mountain Lookout Site
 (Pend Oreille County)

WillhiteWeb.com
In 1926, a D-6 cupola cabin was built 600 feet north of the summit. The fire season of 1926 was bad in the northeast corner of Washington. During one night in July, the lookout here on Monumental Mountain counted 240 fires visible from his station.

In 1930, the lookout was Harry Casselman.

In 1935, the Newport Miner reported, “A scenic drive in the north part of the county is that from Sullivan lake up Harvey creek to the lookout station on Monumental mountain. This road will be extended to connect with the LeClerc creek-Calispell road and complete a crossing of the divide.”

In 1939, a 50-foot pole tower with L-4 cab was built to replace the cupola.

The tower was destroyed in 1958.
