In 1914, Gold Mountain started as a camp.
In 1938, an L-4 cab was built.
In 1963, a 20 foot wooden tower with R-6 flat cab was built.
In 1986, a 100 foot steel tower was built.
Gold Mountain lookout is the tallest live-in tower in Washington state and is staffed every summer.
Access:
If just doing Gold, come in from the north off the paved Bridge Creek Road. If you are also doing Johnny George Lookout, the south access is also important. The south access climbs up Gold Creek Ridge from Wilmont Creek Road.

Hiking Distance: Drive-up

July 17, 1943: “Many teachers are employed this summer as fire lookouts in the Colville national forest, according to Chief Ranger Mel Robertson of Nespelem. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tolleson, Colville, on Gold mountain.” (The Colville Examiner)
