Fish Lake to Cheney Trailhead
This paved section makes for an easy stroll or family bike ride. The railroad history along the way looks interesting and there are some exhibits discussing it. For now, the Columbia Plateau Trail heads south but in the future, the Fish Lake Trail will go north to Spokane. Some safety bridges need to be built over the active railway before that can happen. So, this is the most northern 3.75 miles of the Columbia Plateau Trail and you can bike or walk south for days. Most go about a mile on foot. In one day, I started at Fish Lake and walked 23.5 miles to Martin Road, a full and enjoyable day out in winter when snow covered the higher hills. Choose your own adventure here.
Both trailheads have easy access from Cheney. If walking, go to Fish Lake Trailhead, there is more interesting things to see at the north end of the hike.
