Puget Sound Hikes
For some nice low tide beach walking and supurb views of the Narrows Bridge, this is the one and only park. Located on the West Side of the bridge, the location seems far removed from the hustle and bustle visible on the East side of the bridge over in Tacoma. When you walk down to the beach, you can go south for 1.5 miles to Point Fosdick before you start hitting houses. If the tide is low enough, you could walk the beach much further. From the park if you go north, you get to go under the Narrows Bridges, and eventually a mile north you hit the Cliffside Nature Preserve and Trails. In both directions from the park, there are various state owned beaches along the way. At the park itself, there is a waterfront Cascadia Marine Trail campsite with lots of space for tents.

In 1951, the property was owned by Doc Weathers and his wife Lucille. The property was passed down and eventually gifted to the Lutheran Church Foundation in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1996, the Trust for Public Land acquired the property from the Lutheran Church Foundation in anticipation of selling it to Pierce County. Pierce County acquired the property in 1996 for 2.5 million. The road, parking and viewing areas were developed in 2005 as a component of the third Tacoma Narrows Bridge construction. In 2011, Pierce County transferred the property to the Peninsula Metropolitan Park District which now owns, operates and maintains the park. Eagle Scout projects have added picnic tables and other amenities. The main residence was built in 1961 and is a rental caretaker residence.
