Abandoned DC Plane on Slheimasandur
Hiking Distance: 2 miles one-way

This is kind of a strange attraction. There is an abandoned plane on a beach and everyone wants to go visit it. The plane has been there since 1973 when the US Navy plane ran out of fuel and crashed. The crash happened on a scenic black sand beach called Slheimasandur in what is now a popular tourist area. Then came social media and nowdays the plane attracts thousands. The old road to the plane is closed, now requiring a one-hour hike, or reserve a spot on a shuttle bus that runs the road several times a day. Apparently, everyone in that plane survived. The crash was a result of the pilot switching over to the wrong fuel tank. The remains are still on the sand very close to the sea. If you can visit when nobody else is there, like early morning or evening, I think the site would be quite unique. With lots of people at the site, not so much. I would suggest only doing this if you have extra time.
