The easiest way to run this activity is to purchase a box of magic tricks. There are enough in the box to keep kids entertained for an hour or two.
The key is for the leader to learn the magic tricks at home before hand, getting good enough at them to not reveal the trick.

Start the activity performing the magic tricks. Then show how the tricks are done. Finally, let them practice and perform them. If possible, after they get good, have them perform the tricks on someone who has not seen them.

Do not be tempted to just hand out the tricks with the written instructions so they can learn and perform on their own. Younger kids these days lack the patience and reading skill to make this process work well. Older youth maybe.
