James Harvey Jones Obituary
From the Toronto Republican January 7, 1904
The deceased was born in Lee County West Virginia, in 1836 and was 67 years old at time of death. In 1854, at the age of 18 years, he and his parents moved to Jackson County, MO., where his father died one year later. From Missouri, he moved to Johnson County, Kansas. Later he settled on the Verdegris and for a short time lived in Fall River. Here in 1867 he was married to Mary B. Graves. This union was blessed with thirteen children, nine of whom are now living, four boys and five girls. From 1868 to 1870 he was engaged in the mercantile business at Coyville. From Coyville he moved to a farm in Greenwood County. This was his home for 33 years, during all of which time he was a continual tax payer, with his family lived a happy and prosperous life and from his persistent labors had fashioned a beautiful country home on his farm near Toronto. In 1896 together with his wife professed Christianity and lived a faithful Christian life as a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He moved to Iola in September this year and passed away in his Iola home last week.
The funeral services of J. H. Jones, who died at Lola last week were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon and were largely attended. Services at the church were conducted by Rev. Cargay and those at the grave in charge of the Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Jones had for 42 years been a member.
In 2020, I was sent several files full of Jones family history. Most of the documents I put on my Ancestry.com account which is available to view by anyone who uses Ancestry.com. The images that came with the files I have put on my website and Ancestry.com.
