Snohomish River and Jetty Island

Trip Distance: 9 miles

This trip takes in the last 7 miles of the Snohomish River, then a 2 mile jaunt over to the small marina for Jetty Island across Port Gardner Bay. The Snohomish River flowing into Possession Sound crates one of the largest estuaries in Puget Sound, and it is right next to urban Everett. Quite a few longer paddles can be done amongst the several sloughs if you want more miles. The paddle should have a nice current helping push you on your way but as the river gets close to the sound, things slow down. At this point on our trip, high winds from Possession Sound were pushing waves and wind up the mouth of the Snohomish River. This slowed us down quite a bit what otherwise would have been a very leisurely paddle.

Jetty Island
This popular 2 mile long island is owned and maintained by the Port of Everett. With sandy beaches, volleyball and picnic sites, the people find a way to get here. The island has a docking area as well as beaches for leaving boats. People come over from Everett in every floating device imaginable. The city of Everett runs a passenger only ferry to the island from 4th of July weekend to Labor Day.
