Moon Mountain Lookout Site
WillhiteWeb.com: Fire Lookouts
Lookout Elevation: 3,888 feet
Hiking Distance: Drive-up
Access: High clearance best but you might make it without
Below is all I got for this low elevation lookout site:
In 1922, a log cabin and a crow's nest tree platform was developed.
In 1935 a USGS party said the lookout tower stand was at 11.6 height above the station mark.
In 1938, a 3-legged 50 foot wooden tower with 7x7 foot cab was built.
In 1943, the lookout was Miss Hortense Coleman , a teacher of the Covada school.
It's not clear when it was removed or destroyed.
Access:
Road is in fair shape, steep only at the end. Grass and bushes are growing in the road. No gates, drive until you are comfortable.
