Firefinder and Camera Stands
Located on numerous summits around the West, these wood stands were left standing in place. I often wondered their purpose until I got into fire lookout history. Then I noticed many old pictures with these stands being used, sometimes as a firefinder stand, others had the Osborne camera on them. If they just held a camera, what was the purpose of leaving them? Most appear to be made from lumbered material, with nails and planks built in a similar fashion. Was the USGS involved. Its amazing to me that some remain standing given the location. I want more information but nobody seems to really know any details. If you know something or have pictures, please contact me.
