In 1914, a lookout was under construction and a telephone line to the site had been completed. The lookout man was Forest Ranger E. W. Wheeler. He manned the site through September that year.
In 1915, a log cabin with a platform above the roof was completed.
In 1930, a 20-foot tower with L-4 cab was built. Mike Moran is in charge of the crew of men building the lookout. They also remodeled an obsolete house (likely the cabin).
Ranger Wiltz of Chesaw while on a trip packing supplies to Bodie received a bad axe cut to his foot. Panorama photos were also taken at the end of the season on November 1930.
In 1942, the 20-foot tower was converted to a 3-story house for the Aircraft Warning Service sleeping quarters. The AWS funds also paid for a woodshed. The site was activated July 25, 1942 and deactivated for use on July 1, 1943.
In 1963, a 20-foot timber tower with R-6 flat cab was built.
In 1975 the last lookout was removed or destroyed.
