The highest road in Washington is in the far North Cascades, accessed from the eastside at Mazama, near Winthrop. The drive up to Harts Pass and then up to Slate Pass can be done with any car but a bit of clearance will make it much more enjoyable. If you are new to back-road driving, you might find this road dangerous in one section.
