Palisades Overlook
In Washington State, the highway department often builds overlooks without realizing that the trees will eventually overgrow the site, the Palisades overlook is no exception with trees blocking the surrounding mountain views more each year. Luckily, the view over to the basalt columns should last another decade (maybe). Although central Washington is loaded with column basalt, they are extra scenic when you have the perspective of mature Douglas-fir trees growing on the rim. The overlook also offers some picnic tables, restrooms and interpretive signs.
