Birch Bay State Park feels secluded but it is in the town of Birch Bay and not far from Blaine and Bellingham. So close to urban life, this is the place to gather. There are over 120 picnic tables scattered about. Most tables are not sheltered but six are and there is one kitchen shelter. Take a walk on the rocky beach, check out the views to the Canadian Gulf Islands, or wait for low tide when the water goes way out. The park is known for crabbing, clamming, boating, windsurfing, sailing and paddling. The147 site campground is a bit tight but set in a really nice stand of older trees. There is a short hike to Terrell Creek Marsh, one of the few remaining saltwater/freshwater estuaries in north Puget Sound.
