Kalaloch Creek Nature Trail
Located midway along the 12 mile stretch of drivable coastline in Olympic National Park, Kalaloch Lodge is the only coastal lodging in Olympic National Park. It sits next to Kalaloch Creek which flows into the Pacific Ocean, often too deep to cross even at low tide. On the other side of the creek is Kalaloch Campgound, a typical forested beachside campground with camping among twisted trees on a bluff with camping sights close to the beach. On the beach below the campground is the Tree of Life, a social media hot spot where a tree with all its roots exposed hangs for life as the ground underneath has eroded away. Every year, rumors of its demise circulate but the tree keeps on holding to the edges of the cliff. The Kalaloch Lodge property includes rooms in the Main Lodge, many cabins perched on a bluff, and a hotel-style building called the Seacrest House. There is also a restaurant and store for food, firewood, and other necessities. The history of the property dates back to the 1920s when Charles W. Becker Sr. purchased a 40-acre plot of land where he built the original lodge and cabins. He used the rugged landscape to his advantage, constructing his seaside retreat out of lumber milled from large pieces of driftwood that washed up on the surrounding beaches. Kalaloch's Main Lodge was built in 1953, and in 1978 the entire property was sold to the National Park Service.
This trail is 8/10 of a mile long and consists of a straight trail with a loop at the end. It has some stairs and crosses several wooden bridges. The trail leaves from Kalaloch Campground and crosses the highway, quickly entering a coastal rainforest.

This location is south of Forks, not too far from the Hoh Rain Forest trails. Ruby Beach is also close, just north of Kalaloch where the highway turns East leaving the coast.
