Edmonds
Surrounded by the suburbs of Seattle, Edmonds stands apart as its own distinctive city. Edmonds history has created a diverse mix of new and old buildings and street charm. The downtown is situated just up from Puget Sound while the waterfront below is a mix of pedestrian uses and active marinas. Together it is all walking friendly and makes for an easy get away, being only 20 minutes north of Seattle. Notice the vintage street lamps, the hanging flower baskets, the small shops downtown. The restaurants and cafes are unique, supported by locals. The beachfront eateries feature views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Along the waterfront is a fishing pier and there are 4 different parks with public beach access, including a 27 acre underwater dive park. Edmonds hosts events like the Saturday summer market where all the local farmers, artisans and others bring their crafts. Concerts in the park, car shows, taste of Edmonds, arts festivals, holiday tree lighting, 4th of July show, Halloween events, etc. are all part of their calendar of events. Outside from the downtown and waterfront are public parks like Yost Park which has a popular open-air swimming pool, and many walking trails. Two other parks are City Park and Hickman Park which both have play toys for the kids and barbeque shelters for family picnics. Bird enthusiasts enjoy the Edmonds Marsh, one of the few urban saltwater estuarine marshes remaining in the Puget Sound area. The marsh has over 200 species of birds and Edmonds Marsh is the location of the annual Puget Sound Bird Fest where hundreds of bird watchers come to gather.
