Nelson Nature Park
Nelson Nature Park offers a wonderful paved walking path to get some quick exercise or just a place to get outside if the weather turns nice. The 1/2 mile trail winds around a surprising cluster of tall trees and native vegetation that appears to have been left alone for nearly a century. Nelson Nature Park has few other amenities but there is benches along the trail, a covered picnic area, a kiosk and a bike rack. According to brochures at the kiosk, the wetland area is home to a wide variety of animal and plant life that changes through the seasons. The most popular activity is bird watching. Every year during each of the four different seasons, members of the Tahoma Audobon Society take to the trail to observe and document the different types of birds found in the area. The variety of birdlife that inhabits the wetland at Nelson Nature Park changes with the seasons. There are 58 different bird species that have been recorded at the Nature Park over the years.
