Ocean Shores to Taholah Scenic Drive - Highway 109

If you find yourself in Ocean Shores with some extra time, consider driving north to Taholah, on the Quinault Indian Reservation. Paved highway 109 ends there so it's not a road you would otherwise take. This scenic drive has a few interesting sights along the way, and ends in Taholah, a small village that feels quite remote and cut-off from everything else. In route, you pass several State Parks, including Ocean City State Park, Griffiths Beach State Park and Pacific Beach State Park. Ocean City is best for tent camping while Pacific Beach is best for RV camping. Griffiths Beach is day use only. The city of Pacific Beach is a nice classic stop, just off the highway, with just a few shops near the water. The route also passes Seabrook, a new upscale community that looks like something from the east coast transplanted to Washington. The community is built on a hillside above the ocean, designed for vacation homes in an urban type setting, with all it's own amenities. You really have to drive through it to experience Seabrook. Other small communities are Moclips and Copalis Beach. At several points, there is beach access for driving (except summer). A scenic drive is to get on the beach just south of Pacific Beach on Roosevelt Beach Drive and drive the beach past the Yellow Cliffs & Copalis Rock. Most cars will want to stop at the Boone Creek crossings but high clearance, 4WD can make it further to the Copalis River.
