Roegner Park (White River Park)
On of Auburns nicest community parks is located along the banks of the White River, adjacent to Auburn Riverside High School. Roegner Park was dedicated in 1994, named for a former council member and Mayor Bob Roegner. The amenities include baseball fields, walking trails, access to the banks of the White River, a kids play area, a picnic shelter and many picnic tables scattered around, public art and restrooms. The best feature is that the White River Trail passes through the park. This trail ends on Oravetz Pl. SE just west of the park but walking toward the east, it travels 2.3 miles to Game Farm Wilderness Park. Because the distance is not too far, the trail is used more by walkers and joggers than bikers. A dirt path along side the paved trail is used by equestrians. Roegner Park and the White River Trail offer the possibility of seeing soaring hawks and eagles or blue herons perched on a log out in the White River. Not bad for a city park. In the fall, this park and trail is full of color with the leaves turning different hues of reds, oranges and yellows. The trail stays within sight and sound of the river, has playgrounds, picnic tables and benches along the way, so making the round trip loop really is a good in-town family outing.
