North Slopes of Mount Aire East
Home
Just south of Parleys Canyon and the I-80 corridor is Mount Aire and Millvue Peak. Between these two peaks is one highpoint with 430 feet of prominence. A logical for it is Mount Aire East. The summit ridge builds a large and dramatic cornice that is very visible in the winter when driving along I-80. There are two really good access points, one from Lambs Canyon (free), the other from Mill Creek Canyon (fee). The Mill Creek Route is quicker when the road is open to the end but in spring, coming in from Lams Canyon is your better bet.

Mount Aire East

Distance: 2.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 2,000 feet
Summit Elevation: 8,490 feet
Access: Paved
Take I-80 up Parleys Canyon from Salt Lake. Take the Lambs Canyon exit. Turn right and follow the narrow paved road 1.5 miles until you see a Forest Service trailhead on the right with parking and a standard Forest Service bathroom on the left. In the winter, this road and trailhead is plowed but may be compact snow and ice.

Lambs Canyon Route:
This trail is part of the Great Western Trail. It will be maintained well during the summer. Because the trail is on the north slopes, it is well forested offering good shade. Follow the trail until you reach the pass. From there, you can follow the ridge NW over a few bumps to the summit. It is likely a minor trail exists. You can also cut up to the ridge early as I've shown on the map. The crux would be a narrow ridge just before the summit, often under a foot wide (when snow covered), but very easy to work.
