Fish Lake Hightop Plateau

From the junction of Highways 24 and 25, drive 3.5 miles toward Fish Lake. Just past some communication towers on the right, a Forest Service trailhead is on the left, signed Hancock Flat. From the dirt parking lot are 2 roads, take the road that goes downhill. Follow this road 6 miles down then up to Hancock Flat, then another half mile to a right turn signed for Fish Lake Hightop (FS 329). Follow this road 2.4 miles to a 4WD road on the left. Regular cars should be able to make it to this point. Most people walk the 3.5 miles (with 1100 gain) to the summit along the road. If you have high clearance and 4WD, you can drive it and park just below the summit rocks. The road is pretty rocky and steep in places. There is also a trail up from Fish Lake if you want to really earn this peak. On the north end of the lake is a sign for the Pelican Canyon overlook. Turn here and drive up a gravel road for a mile to a trailhead at the Pelican Promontory.

At the end of the 4WD road is a Forest Service trailhead sign. The summit rocks are visible just to the west, only a short hike and a few hundred foot scramble among some boulders. You can easily hike up to the ridge north or south of the steepest section. Once on top, look for a wooden structure standing on a large boulder. At least 2 benchmarks mark the location as well if the structure blows away someday.

Fish Lake Hightop Plateau is popular because this is the highest point in Sevier County and has over 4,000 feet of prominence. The summit has little resemblance of a mountain so try to think of it as exploring a scenic area of Utah with some light hiking and exploring.
