Adler Planetarium
Chicago Sights & Attractions
For those that like learning about the solar system and beyond, the Adler Planetarium is both a museum, and a theater. With several different theaters, including the huge domed Grainger Sky Theater, many different movie choices are always available that fly through the cosmos. Grainger shows use the most immersive, technologically enhanced theater experience ever developed for a planetarium. In the Shoot For The Moon displays, discover the thrills and dangers of lunar exploration as you take a journey with NASA astronaut Jim Lovell. You'll find the Gemini 12 space capsule in this area. At the Our Solar System displays, explore the many worlds, planets, moons, dwarf planets, comets, and asteroids that orbit the Sun. Kids will enjoy Planet Explorers where they can climb, crawl, pilot, and excavate their way from the familiar to the unknown, discovering a new world. Another exhibit is Astronomy In Culture, which goes back in history to learn about some of the people and cultures that have engaged in the quest to understand their place in the Universe. The Telescopes exhibit uncovers the extraordinary beauty and technology of some of the worlds most important telescopes. A final exhibit called The Universe - A Walk Through Space & Time visits distant corners of the cosmos and witnesses how the Universe evolved over 13.8 billion years from the Big Bang to modern day.
