Emigrants traveled through the City of Rocks between 1843 and 1869. They testified of the great granite spires and rocks all around a dramatic landscape. Today, it doesn't feel much different because the City of Rocks is still quite remote and just as dramatic. There is an interpretive center in the town of Almo, as well as camping and picnic sites inside the reserve. Rock climbing is probably the biggest attraction with over 700 established routes on the 100-600 foot spires. Others visit for photography, wildlife, hiking, skiing, horseback riding or picnicking.
