San Juan County Park
San Juan Island has state and national parks, so why not add a county park to your agenda. Similar to Lime Kiln State Park, San Juan County Park is on the west side of San Juan Island and offers possible views of Orcas (Killer Whales). The park is free to access for day use but camping and launching a boat is rather expensive. The park area and beaches are small so there really isn't much to see and do for day users. But, for camping, the campers all hang out on the grass every sunset chatting while the sun drops behind Vancouver Island. San Juan County park is just 12 acres with 20 campsites. Expect the campground to be full in summer, you'll need a reservation. In winter, it is first-come first-served. Camps have fire rings, picnic tables, fire rings, water and flush toilets. For some reason, the biggest complaint is that there is no showers. Probably becasue they are from out of state. FYI, you'll find few campgrounds in Washington with showers! There is a group camp and a hiker/biker/kayaker camping area. Quiet time at 10 pm with camp fires out at 10:30 pm. This is strictly enforced making it a unfriendly place to have fun campfires late into the night.
