Northeast Tacoma is not anywhere near Tacoma. Isolated on the far side of Commencement Bay, this small area is really an extension of Federal Way. The area has a highpoint that rises well above the surrounding area yet within minutes of Puget Sound on three sides. Indian Hill has been developed with houses, the Harbor Ridge Estates community. The highest point is fenced, owned by Tacoma Water. Huge water reservoirs are buried here, the massive ugly tanks mostly hidden, thankfully. A few communication towers also are within the fenced area. Back before the homes were built, I lived nearby. I seem to remember standing on the tanks taking pictures of Mt. Rainier in one direction and Puget Sound in the other direction. Today, the double barbed wire topped fence will keep you from reaching the highest point, unless the city guys are working, and you can bribe your way up. A road wraps around the entire fenced area.
