Flavel House Museum
The Flavel House is a local landmark house built in 1885 for Captain George Flavel, the first millionaire of Astoria. The home is one of the best preserved examples of Queen Anne architecture. The Flavel House is restored to accurately portray the elegance of the Victorian period. Tours are self-guided. The house and grounds take up a entire city block, which survived the fire of 1922. The 11,600 square footFlavel House is operated by the Clatsop County Historical Society since 1950, it is listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. The tower with a cupola was used by the family for observing the river traffic on the Columbia River.
