Wellington
New Zealand
Wellington is the Capitol and gateway to the south island, It is the second most populous urban area of New Zealand. They say you don't go to New Zealand for the cities but Wellington is pretty cool. The city is easy to navigate on foot, except for Mt. Victoria which isn't too far away.
Oriental Parade
This waterfront promenade is an enjoyable way to get from one side of the downtown to the other side. It's popular with walkers, runners and cyclists.
Museum of New Zealand
Along the waterfront walk is Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum. Inside find exhibitions dedicated to New Zealand's culture and environment.
Mt. Victoria
Mount Victoria is a prominent hill 196 meters (643 feet) high immediately to the east of downtown Wellington. Walking tracks lead through woodland to its summit or you can drive to the top.
Wellington Cablecar
The Wellington Cablecar provides access between Lambton Quay in the heart of the city's shopping district, up some 612 meters of track adn 120 vertical meters to the suburb of Kelburn, home to the Botanic Garden and the Carter Observatory.
Government Buildings
At the northern end of town, is the Government Quarter. The Parliament buildings, including the iconic Beehive, and the foreign embassies are found.
Westpac Stadium
At the far north end of the waterfront, Westpac Stadium is home of cricket, rugby and football.
Ferry to the South Island
The Bluebridge ferry terminal is easily accessible from downtown while the Interislander Ferry terminal is a short taxi ride away.
