Founded in 1883 by Marcus Daly, one of the Copper Kings, Anaconda is proud of its rich history and role its copper smelters played in the electrification of the United States and world. The 585 foot Anaconda stack is a majestic symbol of an industry which for nearly a century was an economic mainstay for Montana, as well as the rest of the United States, when "copper was king." Today the stack stands as a silent monument to the thousands of men and women who over the years, contributed so much to the economic well-being of Montana and the nation. You can visit a few museums, the Stack Interpretive Site or just explore around, Anaconda is often visited being located between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. It is located a short drive off I-90 and can be a scenic alternative whichever direction you are going. The Washoe Theatre is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and ranked by the Smithsonian as one of the five most beautiful theatres in America.
