Highline Trail - Glacier National Park
The Highline Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in Glacier National Park. The Highline Trail begins at Logan Pass on the Going to the Sun Road and then runs north following the Continental Divide to near the Canadian border. For a day trip, the 7.6 mile section known as the Garden Wall runs from Logan Pass to the Granite Park Chalet. Because of the high elevation start, the elevation change on this trail is easy (200 feet). You also have spectacular views the entire time being above the tree line. Once at the Granite Park Chalet, you can hike back to Logan Pass, drop down the 4 mile Loop Trail to the Going to the Sun Road, or climb over Swiftcurrent Pass and follow the Swiftcurrent Pass Trail to the trailhead at Many Glacier. This report shows this route which makes for a 14.6 mile one way trip. Depending on snow conditions, the Highline Trail usually opens by mid to late July as steep snow patches before then really unease the average hiker.
