LDS Historic Sights
This temple was announced in 1968 and dedicated at the end of 1974. It is made of concrete but covered in Alabama white marble, with six spires and an angel Moroni statue at 288 feet, the highest of any LDS temple. The temple is visible from the Beltway and is one of the larger and most impressive of temples for decades. It was the first temple in the Eastern United States. The Temple Visitors Center has interactive exhibits, a reproduction of the Christus statue, and many missionaries to answer any questions.
