Green Mountain Lookout Site (Stevens Co.)
In 1933, the Colville Examiner reported that some C.C.C. Men called at William Ottenbacher's home to investigate the trail up Green mountain. The Ottenbacher residence was near the mountain.
In 1934, the newspaper reported in August that “several guests walked up to the lookout tower on Green mountain and ate lunch with the crew who were finishing their work.” In September, the paper reported that the C.C.C. Men put a telephone line up to the lookout station.
In 1936, the same paper reported that the forest service was putting up a telephone line to the lookout on top of Green Mountain. Also, that John Arrow had been hauling lookout supplies up Green mountain. Later reports said the forest service had its line completed from the Green Mountain lookout tower to Threeforks.
In 1938, a 30-foot pole tower with L-4 cab was built. It is unclear if this date is correct given the above information. The lookout man moved into the Green Mountain Lookout Station in mid-July in 1938.
In 1954, the tower was toppled.
