Kleine Scheidegg
We got up to Kleine Scheidegg and nobody was there. It was very beautiful. We hiked a little ways further than the train station and found the best camp we have had the whole trip. All three peaks were right next to us. We shot a lot of film as the sun set. Cooked spaghetti and watched avalanches. Awoke to perfect weather. Bought the first morning ticket up to the Jungfrau.

Monch - the most climbed of the 3 since there is an easy way up the back side

On a high ridge between Wengen and Grindelwald is Kleine Scheidegg. The location is at a dramatic location in meadows sitting below the north face of the Eiger. Two other nearby peaks Jungfrau and Monch are just as impressive with massive cliff faces. The train station here is a stopping point for hikers or a midway destination for those wanting to take the cog train to the "Top of Europe". (Click the Continue with Trip link to see). Most people don't stay the night in the small hotel here, preferring to spend the night in the bigger villages below but being at Kleine Scheidegg in the evening and morning hours before the crowds arrive is amazing. We shot a few rolls of film during our short stay. The Clint Eastwood film The Eiger Sanction was filmed here so check it out before you come. The hiking possibilities are excellent with walks up to the Eiger North Face or down to Wengen or Grindelwald. Doing a one way traverse over Kleine Scheidegg is the best way to see it all.
