Canada Hike/Climb
Day Six:
This day started with a casual decent past all 3 Avis Lakes. But once past the lowest lake, it was a major climb to get out of the trees and back into the alpine area. Luckily we found a relatively brush free avalanche chute. Our group split near the top of the ridge, three of us chose to go on the ridgetop while the others traversed at tree line to avoid extra elevation climbing. The three of us were able to tag what appeared to be a summit and so we dubbed it The Three Amigos. Back as a group, we did some ups and downs on easier terrain taking a break on a grassy knob that is a winter heli-ski landing area. Now to get to camp required going up and over Sag Mountain. We picked a steep chute that took us to a high SW ridge, then it was easier terrain up to the summit area. Dropping down the backside was easy on snow but soon required crampons to get past a steep drop. Easy trekking on snow led us into our camp at some unnamed lakes below Mt. Wire.
