Valhalla Traverse:
Wire Lake to Upper Wee Sandy Lakes
Day Seven:
Climbing out of camp was a steep drainage that led to a traverse that was uncertain. Stefan scouted it out the night before and found a route but it was uncomfortable. One slip and you are self-arresting in dirt praying you don't slide any further. Then more traversing, ups and downs, soon landing at Nemo Lakes, three large lakes at the head of Nemo Creek. Next was a short pass to climb and then a super long traverse through spectacular meadows up the slopes of Mount Meers. Carrying our packs up to nearly 9,000 feet was tough but they were lighter now and we had all submitted long ago that we were in for a hellish uphill fight. Using snow as much as we could, we made quick work of the upper slopes of Meers and found ourselves on the summit at a reasonable time of day. After a long stay, we had to down climb 100 feet or so from the top to gentler terrain to face out and start the long decent down to some lakes. A rib on the NE side of Meers makes for the perfect route. The 2 lakes between Meers and Wee Sandy Lake are remarkable, we camped at the northern one, and again it was like we were the first to ever camp there.
