The Silver Lake trail must be the easiest hike in all of Big Cottonwood Canyon. There is little effort involved. The lake is right at the trailhead and to hike around the lake is almost perfectly level. There are even boardwalks in many of the wet areas. This trail will melt out before the other Brighton trails so it is very popular in early summer. If you want more adventure, about half way around the lake, a trail splits off to go to Twin Lakes Reservoir. The reservoir is under a mile away but the hike does climb 650 feet.

Not much to explain, just pick which direction you want to go around the lake. The north side is more open in the sun, the south side is more in the trees so depending on if you want to warm up or stay cool at first.
Drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon to the very end at the Brighton Ski Area. Just after going right on the one way loop, look for the large parking area signed by the Forest Service for Silver Lake recreation area.
